Everyone knows a tan looks fantastic and helps you feel great. The main goal of indoor tanning is to help clients build a base tan gradually. Sunburn prevention is important and we will help educate our clients how to achieve that base tan without burning. A major benefit to indoor tanning is that it is a controlled environment. Our Skincare Consultants will evaluate your skin type, understand your tanning goals and then make recommendations to help you achieve those goals.

The Tanning Process
The skin contains melanocytes which are cells located at the base of the epidermis (outer layer of the skin), between the epidermis and the dermis (inner layer of the skin). Melanocytes use an amino acid, called tyrosine, to produce melanin. Melanin is the skins natural defense against sunburn by absorbing UV rays. The melanin leaves the melanoctyes and travels up through the epidermis to form a chemical reaction with the UVA and UVB rays, which darkens the melanin, producing the darker pigmentation of the skin.
The Importance of Using Lotion
Skin conditioning may be the most important and often overlooked part of the tanning process. Indoor tanning lotions are specifically formulated with vitamins, natural oils, anti-oxidants, minerals, natural botanical extracts, and aloe vera to enhance the effect of UV rays. These specific formulas are needed to protect the moisture levels in your skin, allowing pores to open up, and magnify UV exposure. Dry skin, however, reflects UV rays, resulting in the loss of up to 50% of your tan time. Therefore, hydrated skin increases your tanning potential, as well as, allows you to achieve a deeper, longer lasting tan.

Our products contain the finest ingredients to aid in the tanning process, as well as provide skin care tailored to your specific skin type needs. DHA Bronzers
Also referred to as dihydroxyacetone, DHA is a colorless chemical derived from sugar. When rubbed onto your skin, it interacts with the proteins found in dead skin cells to produce a darkening of your skin tone. the development of color takes anywhere from 2 to 4 hours and the intensity is dependent on the concentration of the DHA formula in the lotion. Due to the constant replacement of skin cells, the color lasts about 4 to 7 days.
Natural Bronzers
A blend of natural plant-based extracts that produce an oil-based instant bronze color lasting 1 to 2 days. These lotions enhance your tan by imparting additional color to the skin. An example of these natural bronzers are walnut oil, walnut shell extract, caramel, henna, carrot oil, banana, and black walnut extract. Natural bronzers are designed to build a natural looking tan without the use of DHA.
Melanin Enhancing Bronzers
These bronzers are streak-free, stain-free and do not wash off because the color is the natural tan of the skin at the darkest tone possible. Examples of these lotions are DermaDark, CellDark, NutriDark, TanDark, and Melaboost. These lotions aid skin to use a more functional form if tyrosine for improved color development and magnification.
Coolant Lotions
Contain special skin cooling ingredients like menthol. These counteract the heat of the tanning bed by drawing warmth away from the skin. This lotions are perfect for clients who like to feel a cooling sensation on the skin during and immediately after tanning.
Tingle Lotions
Contain benzyl nicotinate which stimulates and increases micro-circulation of the skin, causing the skin to flush. The red flushing that occurs is due to the increased blood flow to the skin and will add color, making a tan immediately appear darker. This effect, coupled with the color generated in the well-documented immediate pigment darkening reaction (IPD), will yield a more intense appearing tan.
Warning: Tingle lotions are for advanced tanners, and are not recommended for anyone with sensitive skin. Testing a small area of skin before application is mandatory. Do no apply to face or use for outdoor tanning. Wipe or wash hands after use. Showering is not recommended for 4 hours after use, but if the tingle is too intense, Aloe Vera will counteract the tingle ingredients, and will soothe your skin.

Contain a blend of ingredients to hydrate your skin even more after each tanning session. Even with a high end lotion, some moisture escapes skin (tanning indoors and outdoors), so applying an after tan moisturizer/tan extender (before and after tanning) will keep skin well hydrated to ensure a longer lasting, deeper tan.
